The “About Me” tab is a tab in your blog that you need to set up ASAP. The About Me tab will allow readers to have a true understanding of who you are, where your come from, and why you are on the internet. If is important to be authentic and genuine when you are writing about yourself. People want to do business with real people.
If you don’t have an About Me tab get one started right away. If you do have one but it’s not up to par go in and rewrite it if you feel the items below give you some new ideas…
- Introduction Paragraph: Let your readers know exactly what your blog is about, and what they’ll be getting out of it. Emphasize the benefits to them, and what they can expect to learn.
- Next, share why you created this blog, what your passions are, or what your goals and visions are.
- Give a brief timeline of your life story, focusing more on personal development and growth aspects, NOT your personal story. Getting too personal and specific may turn readers away.
- Share the low points of your story, and how you overcame them. Everyone has low points, it’s just part of life, so share your struggles and how you’ve accomplished them and moved forward.
- Brand your accomplishments…what have you been doing to increase your business or education. Talking about anything you’ve done to gain experience and knowledge is great.
- Share interests and hobbies or post pictures/videos about yourself.
- Give a clear call to action at the end, i.e. Get your free gift by opting in, subscribe to my newsletter, follow me on Twitter/FB, etc.
- Tell them how to contact you if they have questions or direct them to another page where your contact information is.
Have fun writing your “About Me” page. It shouldn’t feel like a chore. If anything, you should feel more content and clear about your own visions and goals after writing it all down.

Hi Erika,
These are great tips for an about me page. I am always rethinking how to write mine. I think it’s so important to have the perfect mix of the elements you’ve described above, and an authenticity that can only come from within. In other words, I’d hate for someone that really knows me to read my about me and think, “Eww, she’s sounding sorta cheesy here,” Know what I mean?
In the end, it’s people’s attraction to our true selves that will make our blog/business a success.
Have a great day!
Elizabeth

@Elizabeth, Hi Elizabeth!
I think I’m always wanting to add/edit things on my About Me page just because I want people to get to know me in the best way possible, but sometimes we can drive ourselves crazy trying to get things perfect.
One thing is for sure though…we can’t please everyone, and you’re completely right about being our “true self”.

The *About Me* page is where you want your readers to be able to see who you are, connect with you and relate their experiences with yours.
You’ve pointed out some really great tips on what should be included in the copy about yourself. Thanks for sharing so much value with all of us!
